Paranavitana was found guilty of breaching Level 2 of the code that states players must at all times "conduct play within the spirit of the game as well as within the Laws of Cricket", when he claimed

Well that was unnecessary... it was a harmless appeal. ... maybe something we missed..

He was the only person appealing.
I think he actually thought that he had got it legally, but he was wrong, and he was the only person who felt it was a proper catch.
I don't think he was acting against the spirit of the game, just mistaken.
