Asanka Brendon Ratnayake is a Melbourne-based photojournalist who works for a number of newswire services, newspapers and Getty Images. His work has been used world-wide in publications such as Sports Illustrated, The Wall Street Journal, The Independent & The Sydney Morning Herald. Prior to this, he was a naturally talented cricketer who never made it to international cricket as a player. In fact, he never came close. Photographing cricket for over three years, Asanka now walks in the shadows of international cricketers he once aspired to be like. Spending so much time with cricketers has brought upon a renaissance of his cricket career. This talented wicketkeeper-batsman now has a batting average reaching double figures and only averages one missed stumping and three dropped catches per 50 overs. His behaviour on the field has also improved, considering that he was suspended for only three games last season for dissent and forcing a game to be called off. Asanka is eligible to play international cricket for either Sri Lanka or Australia, but is yet to get a call up. If selectors from either team want to get in touch, they can do so by following him on Twitter or liking his Facebook page, or by getting in touch with him via his website.
