The 5th day arrived with Sri Lanka in control of sealing a victory to go 2-0 up, with Pakistan 8 down with only a lead of over 200, however defensive thinking by Mahela and Co led to Pakistan taken the advantage of the situation and no Pakistani wicket fell with Asad Shafiq and injured Akmal batting with greater ease and batted until Asad Shafiq got his century and gained a challenging lead of 270.

However with 70+ overs to play ,270 runs to get, it should have been Sri Lanka's game but defensive and lack of improvisation forced a draw.Mahela could have done a rabbit out of the hat but ok, satisfied with a draw.Attacking was not in today's tactics of Sri Lanka as it was in Sri Lanka's mind that they have got the series in thier bag.

One thing that really should have been done is to give Thisara, Mathews or Kulasekera to  go for the runs when it was 110 needed in 19 odd overs with the experienced Mahela and Samaraweera to follow, but all's well as long as it ends well, better safe than sorry because nd of the day its a 1st test series win in 3 long years and now the team should rejoice this rare moment of triumph.Congratulations  Mahela and the team for the memorable achievement of a test series victory since the legendary Muttiah Muralitharan said bye bye to test cricket.

Mahela at the presentation says  "I think we have won the series, right? [when asked why they did not go for the runs]. We fought in tough situations, guys performed under pressure. When we came into the last hour, we realised it was not within our reach as we had lost a couple of wickets. Chandimal's wicket was very crucial, we shut shop after that, but obviously till then, the intent was to win the match. It was a very hard series for us. Given the kind of armoury Pakistan have, they should be ranked higher in the ICC rankings. Everyone should take a lot of credit for the hard work [for the series win]."
