The Cricket World Cup was a great success for Sri Lanka emerging runners up but after the World Cup, SLC surrounded with controversy regarding top players such as Lasith Malinga, Kumar Sangakkara & Mahela Jayawardene all opting to play the IPL and delaying joining the squad till the final practice game only 5 days ahead of the 1st Test, in really cool-climatic conditions which Sri Lanka cricketers needs time to adjust to the weather in UK.

Sri Lanka pathetically lost the whole test match within just 1 hour, only scoring 70 odd runs when it was the final day of the test match resulting a series loss to England only by the bad mistakes they made, but also continuing the same in the ODIs and very surprisingly been pushed around at home by the new-look Aussie team as if matches are ‘Giants vs Dwarfs’.

The bitter truth of SLC is that is has been having a downward trend in International Cricket for 2 series against England and Australia. The reason for that is mainly the top players haven’t contributed to the team’s cause consistently resulting humiliating series losses even at home. The big challenge now Sri Lanka will have to face in UAE is to win consistently with every member of the XI giving their heart out to the team, and finally bring lost glory to the island nation.

Sri Lanka could have complained about not having a good all-round coach before but with Geoff Marsh as their Coach, Dilshan as their Captain, still having to lead the team regardless of the 4 series losses, home and abroad a uphill task is to be conquered against a young but experienced Pakistan unit.

SLC needs every luck to go their way to benefit from this tour and many will expect them to somehow emerge victorious both in tests and ODIs to cover up the 2 embarrassing series defeats against two good but young teams. Cricketers of Sri Lanka are you ready to give it all to taste victory and bring some pride to your own nation. As Sri Lanka cricket fans we ask for series wins in UAE, hope you guys deliver this time.
