Another camouflage cricket AGM?

Sri Lanka cricket administartion is heading for disaster if this years AGM is also marred by contestants requested to withdraw. There is a limit to interference. Last time, Michael de Zoysa and Mathivanan withdrew and subsequently got managers post and Vice presidency post rspectively. Others with integrity like Ana P, Sidath, Schafter were forced to withdraw. It will be a good idea if Charith nominates himself nd then asked to withdraw and later he may get the CEOs post.

The ICC is watching the situation and so too are majority of expatriates. One only has to read comments appearing in Islandcricket and other onlines to feel the pulse of fans. Almost unanimously the corruption and intererence is exposed to the whole world. Soon all this will come to an end at the expense of Cricket's death knell and then the 2 new stadiums will be white elephants.

I appeal to all disgruntled fans, excricketers, journos like Rex, Saadi, Mahinda W, Channaka , Ranjan Pathiravitana and calistus Davy and present cricketers to jointly petition the ICC of the going ons as thre will be nothing left of SL cricket. The politicians are killing the goose that laid the golden egg.

Cricket which was a gentlemens game is being taken over by thugs like our parliamen t. Cobbler stick to your last as Cricket is a different game to politics.

Well, i think a petition has already been submitted to the ICC by the club members. Let's see what comes out of the complaints made by the clubs to the ICC about Thilanga's involvement with bookies.

Thilanga is the best of the rotten lot who all have hidden agendas. But if Nishantah joins Thilanga, he shud not be supported. Arjuna too is OK but he does not know admin team work. Those with no political affiliations like Ana P, Sidath, Scaffter will not touch SLC even with a barge pole. Like Ana and company i have come to the end of my tether and soon SL cricket will be a closed chapter. For me being an expatriate and a septuagenarian, i am only interested in the progress of the game and was proud to see 40000 spactators in our last 2 T20 matches.
As long as Nishantha is involved, there will be corruption and let see if Thilanga ropes him in.

TS is ineligible to contest under ICC rules and also our sports laws, which specifically state a owner of a sports equipment business and/or publishing house cannot hold office at SLC.

He is by no means a lesser devil, in fact, he is the worst of the lot. Have fans forgotten the corruption he was embroiled in when he was head of SLC, and other nefarious criminal activities.

Ranjan - If I may respectfully ask, why do you seem to think Thilanga is any better than Nishantha when Thilanga actually is the MOST UNQUALIFIED of all, simply based on his gambling connections, which is in violation of a basic ICC code. Also, he is a politician, another 'no no' based on ICC's code. And if that is all not enough, then yes, as Marcian points out, there is so much more to NOT like about this guy. If you could ever imagine this, he actually makes Nishantha look like a better choice :)

My old age has made me loose my memory. Now I remember TS past. I was thinking of his pluses and knowledge of cricket compared to Dharmadasa. It is again going to be a stalemate with th Presidents nominees being uncontested, Is the cricket exco going to be like Parliament whre there is a place for thugs mostly . Now SLC has been infiltrated by politicians and those with integrity like PI Peiris, Sidath, Tissera, Ana P, do not wish to serve in any cricket committees. Everywhere there is chaos. Once Mathews departs one can expect ill discipline in the team. At least Mahela and Kumar resisted political pull to soem extent. I shud not be wasting time and as i writ i remember the batting coach and the permanent selector among others and i must stop abrupltly as i am fighting a brick wall. However though i will not have much interst i will like to read commenst from all walks of society and they will handle cricket admin better than the lot t present.

Thank you for your sane thoughts as usual Marcian. TS is by far the worst of the worst. Let us not forget that Court proceedings against TS came to a halt only because the person who had turned witness against TS was gunned down and murdered before he gave evidence against TS. While you are innocent till proven guilty, the murder of this witness served to benefit only TS and it got him out of a considerable hole.

This murder took place inside the court and in front of the judge mind you. So it does not get any more criminally brazen than this. Yet, it is amazing how many Sri Lankans have either forgotten about one of the darkest chapters in our legal history, and or they do not think it too big a deal.

My guess is that this will be bigger than what the President can chew however. Respected cricket writer Gideon Haigh started to make a case for the ICC to ban SL for the appointment of Sanath as the Chief Selector (on the basis that he was a politician), and rightfully received little or no support.

This could be different I feel. Regardless of his wriggling out of court action, there was irrefutable documentary evidence that TS sent an underworld murderer to sit alongside Lords, Knights, Judges, barristers and so on inside the hallowed MCC Members Pavilion. It is also documented that TS lied to the ICC Anti Corruption Unit's Paul Congdon and to the High Court of England. So while our own people appear to be blaze about this man's sordid record and activities, I do not think that the ICC will forget, and nor will they be comfortable to have him sitting around as one with them. TS is also a politician, so the ICC have plenty of ammunition to work with.

Let's see how this pans out. It is sad that while we have produced so many who have brought us so much joy on the field, that we cannot come even close to matching this calibre in administration.

I will also follow the likes of Rex with interest in this matter. We all know his spleen-venting stance on the agents, so I can only presume that he would pursue, with equal or greater passion, the far more serious and grave matter of someone like TS becoming SLC head. Judging from his first up contribution on TS today, I won't be holding my breath though.

i do not know the nitty grities to say TS is or not the lesser of the two evils but i object to him completely on account of his businesses.
btw wasnt Gideon Haigh the guy who wanted to ban sri lankan cricket completely due to HR abuses.

Theekshana, you have unfortunate initials man! LOL! Not sure about Gideon re the HR abuses ban etc, though it is certainly possible. So too was Peter Roebuck in fact. What I saw from Gideon was a recent piece calling on the ICC to ban SL for appointing Sanath as Chief Selector as he was a politician. As I said, that didn't get any support and gathered no momentum, but this, in my view could change if Thilanga is nominated as President.

Also, if I may say so Theekshana, I'm disappointed in your comment about not knowing the nitty gritties on TS. How can anyone interested in SL affairs not know or recall the expose in the media at the time, his subsequent arrest, the court actions, his attempts to pervert the course of justice with the crooked magistrate who granted him bail, the shooting of Dhammika Amerasinghe in court moments before he gave evidence against TS, and so on. And even if one's memory is a bit short on the specifics then, one only has to google it to bring ourselves up to speed on such things. Having googled it myself, I posted a couple of links in another news item on IC which summarises the type of person who is aspiring to head our predominant sport.

@ Confused, Lankans forget things very easily. I think it may be the reason for downfall in many sectors in this country :)I dnt think many cricket fans here know about Thilanga Sumathipala and dammika amarasinghe case. He is a man who should be behind bars in a sane country.
