A tribute to Kumar Sangakkara
Kumar Sangakkara is truly a legend. His decision to step down from captaincy is one that cannot be accepted or come to terms with by any Sri Lankan or any cricket fan.
He gave the Sri Lankan cricket fraternity a whole new meaning. Such a noble person resigning is an utter shock, not only to me as a fan, but I believe to the entire cricket fraternity as well.
The aura with which Sangakkara carried the Lions is something you cannot explain in words. He did something so different. He is so unique, so outstanding and definitely so classy.
From a sports point of view, Kumar Sangakkara’s batting and wicket keeping was just so pleasant to watch. The way he batted, the way he stumped the batsmen, when they were out of the crease and the whole idea of him being one of the world’s best wicket keepers, is something else.
Being able to watch you play all through your career, I must say I am beyond lucky. I would never have come across such a player like yourself and I count myself lucky for being part of the generation to have watched every ball you played.
From a humanitarian point of view, there is only one word that can describe Kumar Sangakkara.” GENTLEMAN”. He is a thorough gentleman. Be it on field or off field. There is no match up to this legend. His interpersonal skills, charity works and generally as a human is really award-winning. He is so down-to-earth and simple. And definitely, he got the best partner, Yehali to complement his noble characteristics.
As he steps down from his captaincy, we as Sri Lankans should join hands and give him the greatest farewell ever. Not to forget, we shall still be seeing him in test matches and hopefully a few more games here and there. But nevertheless, Kumar Sangakkara will be missed greatly.
I am yearning to say “Sangakkara, please stay! The cricket fraternity needs you and we as a nation need you to be in the team. You are one of the reasons the team has attained such great heights.” But that would be selfish of me. I believe he has made his decision with careful thought. So as a fan, I can only say “In whatever you do, Kumar Sangakkara, you are wished nothing but the best. You will always have God’s blessings in all your endeavours.”
Kumar Sangakkara will be able to find himself a successor but to find someone to emulate him is IMPOSSIBLE. No one is capable of being Sangakkara.
You will be dearly missed on the pitch. We are quite certain we will see you off pitch. But the aura you had on pitch was something else.

yeah, he was truely a great captain second only to arjuna, bt it seems that we need a captain better than sanga to bring us another world cup, so lets hope we find that " better than sangakkara" captain before 2015!

BRILLIANT BLOG!!! I think u said everything that should be said about SANGA he is a TRUE GENTLEMEN and Carried his Country with the PRIDE of a LION!!!! We LOVE U SANGA UR THE MOST ELEGANT LEFT HAND BATSMEN I Have Ever seen in My LIFe!!! Any Team in the world Shivers While ur in the crease and No one as this article says No one has the AURA that u carry in the Field... I thank U a MILLION for the memories U have given us and also for the most amazing glory U bought to us in winning the first series in australia!!!! This is a great blog. Sanga is really a legend. It's shocking and gives a lot of pain that he is resigning. Gonna miss his captaincy and the way he talks before and after a match. I'd like it if this is a dream but it's not. Sanga, there are sooooo many people loving you and will always be with you in every step you take. As a diehard fan of yours I wish you all the best in everything you do.You're a true gentleman. WE ARE SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO PROUD OF YOU!

A great captain and even better person on and off the field.
For some reason i'm not buying Sanga's reasons for gave up the captaincy.... Something is seriously wrong here.. He is one in million guy and i really don't think he will do such a premature thing right now.. If he want someone to take over the captaincy for 2015 he should n't have resign for Test captaincy.. Appointing Thilan for test captain not gonna do better for Sri Lanka cricket. we need a captain, who has respect from other players, with a great personality and etc... Whatever it is we are really disappointed to see him resigning .. He is the best player SL hv ever produced...Cheers Sanga All the best!!!
Very nice blog and agree to everything you've said..only complaint is sometimes it sounds like he retired from playing international cricket rather than just the captaincy! hope that day doesnt come any-time soon!

Folks the guy hasnt retires from cricket only captaincy so we will see more of his graceful talent on display. He was a great captain and what better recognition that being names the ICC captain from the 2011 WC. His leadership has been awesome and his batting talent is second to none. Pure class is Sanga's technique with no real weaknesses and what about that cover drive. I'm still hopefull Sanga will be there in 2015 much like Sachin has been around playing under numerous captains.
Kumar Sangakkara, you are a gentleman & a wonderful sportsman! just like Murali.You deserve better. Wish you all the very best & many blessings form above for the future! It is very sad to see you go.
