Punjabi pressure on Sangakkara
Submitted by Chanel on March 16, 2010 - 10:24
Oh boy! Kings Eleven Punjab have played two games and have nothing to show for it. Sangakkara's first two games as captain of Punjab at the IPL couldn't have gotten off to a more terrible start.
Sangakkara has absolutely no pressure in Sri Lanka because everyone is still smitten at the gifted speaker's appointment as captain. He hasn't fared that badly as captain either. Sri Lankan fans are also a different bunch compared to Indian fans. So I wonder how long before we see effigies of Sangakkara being burned?
BTW this here is his record since taking over as captain for Sri Lanka in all formats. He hasn't tasted too many losses. So the pressure is on.

I agree with you to a certain extent. But then again, there is nothing any captain can do if his bowlers are not able to control their lines and length, or better yet, THINK of how they need to adapt to the situation.
The batsmen did their part today. The bowlers did not. Remember, the Bangalore bowlers also took some stick from the Punjab Batsmen.
First game, yes, they did not do well. But lets write that off. It was their first game.
Sanga should bounce back. I think they need to rethink their bowling strategy. Probably start off with a spinner or medium pacer like SL did in the WT20 last year.. just to mess the system up.
For Sanga's sake, hopefully this pans out well!

I think it's way too early in this tournament to be calling Sanga out.

When is the next match?
you are pretty silly to say sanga has absolutely no pressure as captain of Sri Lanka. It's common sense that captaining a national side is far more stressful than captaining a club. Besides, sanga has come under a lot criticism lately for the losses in India and his attitude towards other players. If you read articles late last year and early this year on sunday newspapers, you'd notice that.
Sanga has no pressure. He is a legend.
Ha ha 3 losses now for King Pada Show!

I had a look at the stats for Sanga as captain of SL: 22 wins, 16 losses. That's quite a few losses so I wouldn't be so quick to say he hasn't had a 'taste' of the pressure that comes with losing.
