So many memories of that entire tournament! I was a volunteer at the event and was at the grounds in Kandy when SL scored 398 against Kenya!
The day of the final a friend and I planned on going to a hotel to watch it, but couldn't find any taxis on the street! It was like a curfew had been imposed! So we decided to come back to my place and watch the match.
After we won, you could hear the whole of Colombo light up with fireworks so we decided to go out on to Galle Road and see what's going on.
Man... there were 100s of cars with people from all walks of life and all ethnic groups driving around with SL flags tooting their car horns and screaming.
There were a few trucks with papare bands playing trumpets driving by too.
Some random dude stopped near us and informed us that Carnival Ice Cream parlour in Colombo-3 was giving away free ice cream. So we flagged down a tuk tuk and headed there.
Galle Face was just rocking! People dancing, singing and partying everywhere! It was a big street party.
That was some experience man!
One of the greatest moments in our island's history!
This memory about Srilanka wining the world cup will never die. Captain cool and the team will be in our minds forever.
